United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples:

This module traces the origins and creation of the United Nation’s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.  We will also discuss the international Indigenous movement that led to the drafting of the document and how it is not being implemented in Canada.

Learning Objectives: 

  • Identify what constitutes the definition of Indigenous Peoples

  • Identify the origins and creation of UNDRIP

  • Explore the key rights of Indigenous Peoples outlined by the document

  • Examine the lack of implementation of UNDRIP within Canada compared to other countries
